When to Order Invitations Invitations should be ordered at least six months in advance. This gives you plenty of time to assemble and address the invitations.
When to Mail Invitations Mail your invitations two months prior to your wedding date, if all guests are local. If you have out of town guests, you should consider purchasing "Save the Date" Announcements and mailing them out two months before you mail the invitations. This gives guests time to receive favorable rates on travel arrangements.
How Many to Order If the majority of your guests are couples and families, living in the same household, it is only necessary to mail them one invitation. Therefore, it may be safe to order invitations for half the number of guests. However, it is advisable to order an additional 25 invitations to cover anyone you forgot to include or to cover mistakes when addressing envelopes - - Plan for the unexpected.
Return Address on Back Flap of Outer Envelope A return address will ensure that undeliverable invitations will be returned to you. Your return address should be blind embossed, thermographed, or engraved.
When Should the Respond Date Be You should request a respond date of at least one month before the wedding. This gives you ample time to give caterers and others an accurate headcount. Because some reply cards are returned unsigned or unreadable you should code your guest list and the back corner of your cards with small print. This will help you easily track who has and has not responded.
Proper Addressing for Outer & Inner Envelopes The outer envelope should be formally addressed using Mr., Mrs., Ms., and/or Miss. Use very few, if any, abbreviations when addressing your outer envelopes. Use the following guide to address inner envelopes: Uncle Tim and Aunt Jane or Tim and Jane (for informal/intimate invitations) & Mr. and Mrs. Smith (for formal invitations)
